Updates on quotes.

(Paint)Doing the ceilings will add $500 and the granite counters came in at $4000 from DB Cabinets and quartz came in at $7800 from Colonial!
Still no work for Hubby, now we are getting a little frustrated as they probably won't call now till after the holiday next Monday so they won't have to pay him the benefit!

Two more quotes.

Today we received a quote for all the plumbing pieces like sinks and taps etc. It comes in at $7281 and our painter's quote was $6500 minus the ceilings. We have asked why no ceilings, maybe they assume we are putting a coating on the ceiling.

Spent a little time on the beach at Cordova Bay with daughters, grandkids and grand-dog!

Hopefully we get the call tomorrow for Hubby to go to work. Fingers crossed.

Latest news.

We had a call this am that the engineering information was ready to be picked up from Mann Engineering. We needed them to go over our plans and figure out the beams and cement work info. to pass on to our trades. This is also part of our building permit application.$560.They will also come to the site to check on various levels so this is just the start of cheques to them!

Once again , we wait!

Plumbing fixtures.

Today we spent time with a showroom consultant at Bartle & Gibson, a plumbing wholesaler. Too many choices, I had great difficulty picking brand new items when I know I can get them a lot cheaper by watching Craig's List etc. I am hoping we will get contractors' price for these. The salesman will cost them all out and send us a quote. Hubby thinks it will be $5000-$6000 approx. I think closer to $10,000. We will see.
We also went to the property to water the remaining plants there and Hubby cleared out his bare hulk of a car as the man that did the metal fabricating etc. is coming tomorrow to trailer it to a car show for advertising for his workmanship. Hopefully it will be displayed indoors as there are showers threatened for this weekend. We are also going with friends to Western Speedway to watch the Daffodil Cup on Saturday night. It is cold there at the best of times so I will be prepared for cold AND rain!!!

Well we did it!!!

Today we applied for our building permit.$900+ just to apply. The Inspector that took our application gave us a scare as we were so careful to pick a home that fit within the allowed set backs that we forgot there is a rule that the home can only be 30% of the lot. The home we picked was as large as the allotted space and luckily it does come within the 30%!! Phew!! We asked how long the permit may take and the inspector said 3-4 weeks once we get the engineering info back from Mann Engineering.

We also took plans to a lighting company that my husbands' nephew is the manager. A very helpful man talked us through the plotting out of all the lighting required in the home.

Yahoo! Yippee! Finally!!!!!

We received our Home Protection Office Documents so we will be able to apply for our building permit tomorrow. We have no idea yet how long THAT will take to be approved.
We went and spent time with our Realtor and his assistant who "stages" houses to sell. They put us in touch with another person that does kitchen cabinets. We dropped off the plans at noon and had a quote by 6pm!!!
The next thing we are waiting for is for Hubby to get a Job to pay for all this.We may hear tomorrow so keep your collective fingers crossed!!

Picked out the appliances

Went to Coast Wholesale on Cloverdale. Nice guy helped us.He gives us a price now, we pay a refundable deposit and if any of them come on sale between now and purchase, we get that cheaper price. We went with stainless steel for the re-sale value.Bottom freezer on the fridge.
We also have been getting info. on the requirements for our roof water and driveway run off. There is a calculation to be made so we have to find the area so we can have the correct size of containment system.

Another week goes by!

I put an old photo back on the masthead of the blog. Haven't figured out how to shrink the photos I am taking right now, so bear with me!
We have been going to see more people regarding the inner parts like kitchen, flooring and paint and gyproc.
Kitchen at Harbour City, flooring at Hourigans, paint from Indelible paint and gyproc installation through a friend that did our garage at our last home.
We have mailed in our request for our Home Protection Office documents. We need them prior to applying for our building permit. They will take a minimum of 10 days to get back to us then our building permit is a minimum of 4 weeks so it looks like we won't be actually starting until late September!
We asked what the address for the lot we are building on will be and the Municipality came back with 801! This is because there was a mistake numbering the lot behind us so our two lots will be 801 and 799!
Forgot to say that we, including our landlord and my son, moved our metal garden shed to the cement pad in the rear of the 2nd lot.
